A safer California
I am so glad to hear CA passed a law requiring you have a hands free headset while talking on your cell phone. Good to know all my friends on the West Coast are much safer now.

ha ha!! it's funny while i was reading the post before i saw the video, i thought to myself yah, if it'll keep people from doing all the other crud they do instead of driving!!! then i saw the clip. HI-LARIOUS!!! and sadly so true!
The tendency is really good. All countries in Europe have same laws, hope all states of America will join our state in banning the use of mobile phones with the hands while driving.
The fine should be much more i think. Then one could even have no ability to compare the price of a hands-free and a fine.
Thats funny . Thanks for sharing.
SOO True! This law is so lame! Do they really think this will make people better drivers? Why don't people just take responsibility for themselves and face the fact they are crappy drivers. Welcome to the Nanny state!
haha! I saw some guy the other day still using his phone but trying to keep it low so that the cops wouldn't see and using speaker phone. I think that may make matters worse!

Anna
OMG! This guy is hilarious! the wood flute was killing me! thanks for sharing : )
It looked funny but I couldn't hear the audio because my F___g ears are ringing from my Bluetooth!
I'll agree that using a wireless headset is safer, but we don't need the government to tell us that. My bluetooth headset stopped working so I've been using a wired earbud. I swear trying to stay untangled with those things is more dangerous than holding a phone up to your ear!
Nice work, truly awesome. At least with hands-free you avoid getting brain cancer.
But the morons didn't make text messaging illegal! Oh, and they didn't require hands free dialing, either.
I think the law is stupid, it not the "talking" on the phone that is dangerous, it's the dialing of the phone, the fumbling to actually put your earpiece on your ear, I mean who really want's to wear that thing all the time on a long drive. I think we'll find in the next year or two that accidents have NOT been reduced because of this new law. Until all vehicles have bluetooth integrated into the stereo systems, you will never truly be hands free. This is currently only an option on high end cars.
We have the same thing in WA state... although it is a secondary offense. That means a cop has to pull you over for something else, THEN cite you for the cell phone use.
I'm not pushing my luck, though. I firmly believe a cop would pull me over for the most tiny of citations in order to slap on the cell phone violation.
The funny thing is.. I still drive with one hand and I still carry on conversation with passengers (again while driving with one hand).
It *is* the fumbling w/phones that is the issue-- but wtf.. supposedly it is a bigger deal that I'm talking to someone on the phone, using my usually-free hand?
Maybe now I will use the time to pleasure myself instead. Thanks, government!
Freakin' great commentary on a hand-holding (nanny) law.
If they made cell phones that wouldn't and couldn't work from the inside of a car when the motor is running....that might help. You'd have to step outside the car; or shut the motor down.
I think cell phones should be restricted to a 3 minute 'talk' and used for such emergencies as being stalked by a bear on a hillside, or needing a pickup from an airport when your plane lands, or notifying someone of a happening when no land line is available. So there! Vera
i received this email and watched the youtube video on m brand new iphone while i was driving down I5 and by the way i am currently driving and typing this message. classic cali! exactly what this video is talking about. but there is no law about texting while driving!!! ha ha ha!
